Happy #DouglassWeek 2023 〰️

DAY 3 had a variety of great insights and got us moving internationally!

Today, on Wednesday, July 12, we will kick off with an in-person event in Cork, our first Cork Abolitionists Trail Tour - which, we are excited to say, has sold out, but don't worry, we are offering a second one on tomorrow at 12.00pm Irish time - go to our Eventbrite to sign up for this last FREE guided tour of our trail!

We also held a big press conference and received a proclamation from the City of Rochester from Mayor Evans.

We are also proud to say that we are continuing our educational efforts and continue to work on the Frederick Douglass Ireland Curriculum with educators around the world, and we had a great session with Dr Jack Kaufmann-McKivigan, IUPUI, and Molly DePippo, New-York Historical Society.

There were also several in-person events in Rochester today, including a very successful Rochester Fleet Feet Community Fun Run/Walk and a Food Drive benefiting FoodLink, and free Douglass-themed tours at the Rochester Museum and Science Center as well as a special story telling hour.

Our online viewers were able to learn more about the lost history of Frederick Douglass in Rochester and the relationship between Rochester and Washington, DC. with John H. Muller.

One of the highlights of the day was a very special event, a screening and live panel discussion of the one-act play, “Abraham Lincoln & Frederick Douglass: A Walk to Respect” - definitely want to check that out in case you missed it.

Want to know what’s happening tomorrow?

On day 4, we will start with our second and last Cork Abolitionists Tour in Cork, Ireland, led by Dr Adrian Mulligan. We will hear from Dr. Mary Burke (University of Connecticut) who discussed Frank Yerby, an African-American best-selling author of maternal Irish ancestry. Drawing from her new book, "Race, Politics and Irish America" (OUP, 2023), Burke will discuss “The Foxes of Harrow” (1946), Yerby’s historical romance about a Dublin-born planter in the antebellum South.

We will go back to the Rochester Museum and Science Center for one of two last sessions of a special story hour of Frederick’s Journey by Doreen Rappaport and a guided tour of the Flight to Freedom exhibit.

Our last two events of the day, are our “Curating Activism” panel, in it's 3rd edition this year, and a unique conversation with members of the Graduate Students of Color from the University of Rochester at 7pm at the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives Headquarter in Rochester. So much exciting stuff happening - come join us1

If you can’t be there in person or a scheduled event does not suit your schedule, you may go to our YouTube channel and watch and rewatch all of our events!
